Ancestral Sports Reborn!

Soon-to-be-forgotten Anatolian sports and crafts related to them are promoted at the World Ethnosports and Culture Festival. The festival in Halkalı, Istanbul which gathers 25 traditional sports such as archery, javelin and mangala (a type of board game) under one roof thanks to the World Ethnosports Confederation, also brings together different cultures. The enactment of skillful blacksmiths making helmet and armor on the forging press in the village squares invites visitors to a journey in time. The traditional artefacts from handwoven carpets to pots and canes are displayed in the market while workshops keep the endangered cultural heritage alive. The guests can treat themselves to tasty traditional delicacies while both children and adults can participate in sports events such as horse riding and archery. The confederation aims to revive the ancestral sports with this festival, which enables participants from 40 countries demonstrate their local sports on an international platform.
